Dear Chicago International Music Competition,

I am interested in competing this year, and wanted to ask if you could share with me the value of the monetary prizes for both the Rising Star/Solo Percussion/CONCERT ARTIST, and in the Professional Category/Solo Percussion/CONCERT ARTIST categories.

I thank you in advance for your time and help,

Sincerely,

Mateo Seghezzo

Dear CIMC Team,

I have a question regarding the upcoming 2023 CIMC competition:

Does the contestant (if advanced to final) need to perform the exact same repertoires submitted during preliminary round? In another word, can the contestant play different set of repertoires (that meet the repertoire regulation of CIMC) at the final in July?

Thank you very much! I look forward to participating in CIPC 2023.

Best regards
Peter

Hello! I’m very interested in applying for this competition. I have one quick question about repertoire requirements for percussion. The rules call for one piece from the baroque, classical, romantic, and modern era. If I’m applying as a percussionist, does this apply to me as well (meaning I perform only transcriptions on keyboard instruments of pieces from those eras) or would CMIC prefer a diverse selection from the available percussion repertoire (including more instruments than just keyboard)?

Thanks!

Hello, are 2 pieces of work for rising star category from contrasting periods, or same period is ok? For example, can we choose 2 Chopin pieces for final competition?
how many pieces are required for audition?
what's the total competition time limit for age group 15~17?

Hello,
I would like to have your confirmation about the website http://cimcusa.asia, is it also belonged to you organisation? Should I register directly to your website or for Asian candidate I should do via http://cimcusa.asia?
Thank you

Quick questions regarding repertoire for the competition:

For this rule...."Participants must perform four self-chosen works: any work of any composer from the Baroque period, the Classical period, the Romantic period, and the Modern period." Since you use "and", to confirm, do the four pieces then need to be one from each of these four style periods, or can two of the pieces be from the Romantic period, as an example?
Also, for a Classical sonata, do you require the entire sonata, or is one movement also acceptable?

Thank you!

Hello and good afternoon,

My name is Rebeca Torres, and I have a few questions regarding the competition. I read through the rules, and was wondering about the program. I read that participants in the professional category may pick 4 pieces from each of the periods. Is a participant allowed to perform an entire Bach partita or suite or just selected pieces from the work? Does the same thing also work for sonatas? Can participants play an entire sonata?

Regarding the special prizes, I also read that students may perform two Chopin or Liszt pieces in order to qualify for the best romantic piece. Does that mean a competitor will perform 5 pieces in total? Is one allowed to play an etude and a larger work for example?

Although there is no set time limit, is there a recommendation on what is considered the best duration of the entire performance? What would be considered too long?

Lastly, do competitors need to bring copies of their music? And if so, do measures need to be numbered or is the jury looking for specific editions?

Thank you for your time,
-Rebeca Torres

Hi,

I have some questions regarding the 2023 Chicago International Music Competition:

1. About SOLO PROFESSIONAL category: For the required 4 pieces, does each of them have to be from the 4 different periods? Or can two of them be from the same period? For example, is the following set of pieces acceptable for the Solo Professional category (Young Artist I)?

Piece 1: Classical
Piece 2: Romantic
Piece 2: Romantic
Piece 4: Modern

2. If we are interested to participate in both SOLO and ENSEMBLE categories, do they have to be in the same Rising Star or Professional Level?
For example, is the same person allowed to participate in these categories?

Solo: Professional
Ensemble: Rising Star

3. About Ensemble Piano Category: Are piano duo (TWO pianos) included in this Ensemble category?

Thank you so much!

Dear, CIMC

I am a pianist strongly considering participating in the 2023 Chicago International Music Competition. My only question now is: Does one play the same set of pieces (2 or 4) if they make it to the final round as they played in the preliminary round over video? Or is one expected to play a completely unique set of pieces in person?

Thank you,

Eitan Podolny
